Some things to get you through the week
A post once a week? You’d think I get paid for this! (thank you to all 11 of you who pay for this).
January was rough! I don’t think I need to recap the horrors, but I am trying out a new format where I list what’s getting me through the week. Here are some things keeping the void somewhat at bay.
This piece from The Ezra Klein Show - Don’t Believe Him
These 14 minutes feel like a nervous system reset. I desperately needed it. Trump’s media onslaught is doing exactly what it’s designed to do, make us feel powerless and afraid. This piece reminded me that the self-proclaimed emperor has no clothes and much less power than he’d like us to believe.
New fav podcast - Cramped
I’m a big fan of Kate Downey’s Substack Cramped and last week she launched the podcast! If you have periods, or care about someone who has periods, this is an essential listen. Will it leave you rageful about how little women’s bodies are studied and how often we dismiss women’s pain? Of course. But it’ll also leave you with a way better understanding of period pain (prostaglandins, who knew).
The Kardashians are back on Hulu
Look I’m not here to defend Kim and Kris’s Meta dealings, friendship with Ivanka, or a litany of other sus behaviors. But I dare you to watch the episodes about Kourtney’s pregnancy journey or the never ending onslaught of traumas Khloe endures, and NOT be moved. In the season premiere Khloe meets with ex-husband Lamar Odom for the first time in nearly a decade 👀 You could have shot a gun in the room and I would not have looked away. I will watch every season as long as they make this show, and I will hold dear these Thursday nights that include the sisters and Traitors.
Most anticipated book of the year - Onyx Storm
I wish an Empyrean book came out every month - it was such a welcome escape. How Yarros wrote one of the best selling fantasy series of all time in only 2.5 years, while suffering from chronic pain, while being a mother of SIX is beyond comprehension. Grateful to her and the content soldiers making Onxy Storm memes cuz they are the only thing keeping me going some days.
My notoriously thrifty and anti-consumerist boyfriend tried out this neck massager last year and instantly added to cart. We both have a pretty snobby aversion to trendy gadgets and are very aware that at this price point it might not last long, but after two minutes it quite literally had us in a choke hold. It’s become part of the nightly couch routine and even has a heat setting which is quite nice on chilly evenings. There are tons of brands that make a similar product but we have this Nektech one.
Hope your February is shaping up to be better than last month! Xoxo
